RL Ideas: 5 Ways to use the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year

Let these spaces inspire you to furnish and decorate your own home with marsala

Every year, leading color authority Pantone chooses the color that will be prominently seen in the fields of beauty, fashion, design, interiors, home furnishings, and more. For 2015, Pantone has named marsala, a deep reddish brown hue, as color of the year.

Here are practical ideas on how to spruce up your personal space with warm, earthy shades similar to marsala, like maroon, burgundy, and brick red.

Choose throw pillows

Since throw pillows are quite affordable, you can pick a few to update your seats at home.

In the living room of L’Indochine owner Charlene Carlos, a chair is complemented with a rectangular pillow from L'Indochine and a bolster made from cloth purchased at Fabric Warehouse.

In the living room of interior designer Joby Belmonte, the gallinera was turned into a couch by adding a white cushion and burgundy pillows.

The daybed in the den was made even more inviting with the more wine-colored pillows.

Start with the seats
One of the easiest ways to add more color to your home is to choose a few vibrantly-hued pieces.

In the Legarda home, these red chairs serve as seating options and immediately brighten up the kitchen.

In the townhouse shared by friends Andoy Ranay and Peter Serrano, the home office stands out because of the red Panton chair. The Panton chair is an S-shaped plastic seat created by the Danish designer Verner Panton.

Try a new rug

A good area rug can complete the look of any space. It adds warmth and texture to the room and separates the different areas of the home.

For unexpected pops of color, choose rugs with robust shades and geometric prints like the Afghan rugs in Andoy Ranay and Peter Serrano’s home.

Opt for an accent wall

Ready for a big change? Paint an entire wall of one area a bold and striking hue!

In the dining room of the Avecilla home, the bright red accent wall stimulates the appetite and complements the Asian design style of the house.

Paint the town (or house!) red

While you’re at it, why don’t you transform the façade of your home with a deep shade like brick red?

A marsala-like paint color can look especially impressive for country-style barn houses, such as this one in Antipolo.
