RL Entertaining: An Indulgent Afternoon with Friends

Treat your best girl friends to an afternoon of primping and pampering

Given the busy workweek and the holiday rush, it's only fitting that you look forward to a comforting and luxurious weekend. Only a few things are better than a knot-unfurling massage and a rejuvenating scrub-such as an uninterrupted stretch of time enjoying these relaxing treats with your closest friends!

To DIY or not?

There are spas that offer various "sparty" packages-some even come with food and beverages-for big groups. If your budget is limited and you're craving for a more private treatment, you can always do it yourself. Whatever you choose, dedicate an entire unhurried afternoon for this pursuit.

For a home-based sparty, a group of three or four is ideal. Prepare for a three-course treat: hand and foot spa, manicure-pedicure, and massage.

  • For the massage, you may want to hire a professional masseuse to prevent injuries.
  • For the two other activities, you may also hire a pro, your neighborhood manicurista, or just take turns in scrubbing each other's hands and toes and painting each other's nails.
The Invite

Make sure that your invitation is in accordance with the theme. Here's what you can add:

CARE TO DE-STRESS?

You are invited to let you hair down and drown your worries in painterly nail polish, slough off your stress in exfoliating scrub, and ease your pressure points in ooh-some massage.

  • When: January 22, Saturday, 2PM
  • Where: 18 Dahlia Street, Magnolia Heights, Quezon City
  • RSVP Chelsea: 0922-446-9004
Prepare the Mani-Pedi Bar

Provide a set of new or sterilized manicure-pedicure tools for each guest: nail files, orange sticks, metal pushers, nail clippers, foot files, nail buffers, etc. For "dessert", have an assortment of nail polishes; set in a tray, and let your guests choose the color of their fancy.

Set the stage for leisure.

For the hand and foot spa activity, set up the paraphernalia (Epsom salts, pumice stone, foot cream, a stack of fresh towels, and the like) near the bathroom. You may also do it in the living room, just be careful of spills.

Designate an area with comfy couches and plush pillows for the nail-painting event.

For back massages, you may do it in your own bed (don't forget to change the sheets and have a few extras ready).

Generously mist a soothing room fragrance-try bamboo or lavender-from time to time to heighten the tranquil mood.

Make a playlist of relaxing music to pipe in during your sparty, but shy away sleep-inducing tunes.

Don't forget the snacks.

What's a spa without the tea? Steep green tea in a pot and set it out for the girls. If you like it cold, steep the tea the night before, refrigerate it, and serve in tall tumblers with sugar syrup on the side.

Prepare food that are easy to handle and can be eaten while having nails done and sans the need for plates and cutlery-and please, no bags of chips that requires digging in of digits.

Sandwiches cut into bite-sized pieces are a safe bet.
