The walls in our home contribute to the overall look of the space and it's only right that we maintain them the right way. Once you see dirt and grime taking over—do you simply give it a good wash or do you instantly decide that it's time for a fresh coat of paint? Keep in mind these helpful tips:

It is better to wash your walls when black marks are present. Wash your walls using three to four drops of liquid detergent and a half-filled bucket of water. Those looking for an alternative solution can also work with white vinegar mixed with water.

Is it time to work with a new color? Repainting should be done when the paint starts to peel or when defects such as chipping, discoloration, loss of gloss, flaking, peeling, and chalking are visible.

In my experience, seven to 15 years is a reasonable expectation to repaint your walls. Aside from being on the lookout for the signs mentioned above, keep in mind that your walls need a bit of work when they are starting to look dated or has accumulated too much dirt.
