Q: We have a long but narrow bedroom in our condo unit. There is a door on the far end of the right side, while a standard long row of windows can be found along the wall to the right. There are no built-in cabinets yet. Where should I put my built-in cabinets? My boyfriend and I have a lot of clothes. And how should I position our bed?—Frances

A: Long and narrow spaces are always a little harder to layout. You can't fill it with too many things especially since this is a place where you're supposed to relax. With this in mind, you definitely need  a separate storage space. If you have a separate storage room outside your bedroom that you can convert into a closet for your own and your boyfriend's clothes, please use this instead. Otherwise, position your built-in closet at the far end of the left side of your room since the door and windows are at the right side.

Your bed should follow the orientation of the room. Place it against a wall if its width doesn't leave much room for movement. And if you want to follow feng shui rules, don't position the bed in a way that your feet are directly facing the door.
