Reader Question: What Kind of White Sofa Should I Buy?
Real Living consulting style editor and design consultant Issa Villar gives couch-related advice
Q: I’d like to ask where I can get a white sofa for our living room. I still can’t decide whether to choose a moderately priced leather sofa or an affordable sofa that’s readily available. What are the pros and cons of having a white leather sofa? Which is easier to maintain and clean? – Aniqa Macarambon
A: Because my family has experienced having a light leather sofa, I would recommend getting a fabric sofa instead. The leather was great to look at but was a bane to clean! We tried everything—leather cleaners, wax, scrubbing with a brush, and even rinsing it and setting it out under the sun.
In the end, we went back to a fabric sofa that had a slipcover that could be removed and thrown in the wash. Most furniture stores have swatches to choose from, and sometimes, they even let you bring your own fabric. Ask them if you could have all the pieces zippered or have an extra slipcover made.
