While many expected a light or neutral color to take over next year, Pantone surprised us with a vibrant shade that will surely liven up any area at home.

Meet PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery—a pick that perfectly captures our love for plants and the outdoors.

Given the recent events happening around the globe, the chosen color is indeed refreshing—a treat to the senses that brings hope for better things to come. "Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose," says Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman.

A video was posted on Pantone's Instagram account to show how Greenery is achieved. A yellow-green shade, it makes for a perfect accent color if you want to bring nature indoors:

An anticipated event across industries and interests, the announcement of the color of the year also gives us a peek into what would be trendy in the coming year not just in the field of home and interiors, but in the world of fashion, too.

To inspire you to work with Greenery for your next home improvement project, here are photos you can save as pegs:

Transform your dining area into a country-inspired nook where you can feel the warmth of summer all year. An accent wall makes for a perfect background if you love displaying wall art and framed photographs.

For a subtle touch in the bedroom, you can paint your headboard in this color for a bright and catchy pop. As an alternative, you can also have an additional seating piece or an accent chair in the same shade to serve as focal point.

Planning to give your kitchen a makeover? A lively green backsplash is all you need to breathe new life into this busy space. Make it extra sweet by putting fruit bowls on display as part of your countertop vignette.
