Blending two clashing decor styles, no matter what they are, can come off as an impossible task—especially if you're trying to tie polar opposites together like Mediterranean and Asian influences. One is light, airy and filled with eye-catching patterns; while the latter is minimal, serene and mostly neutral.

However, if you really think about it, the fact that they are so different is the reason they can work well together! With the right styling tips and smart furnishing choices, they can create a harmonious blend. Read on for more helpful tips:

1. Keep a focus.

Asian and Mediterranean are rich styles, so don't do overkill by adding accents in other themes like classical or European. Try to stick with the look you want to achieve to avoid making your space look topsy-turvy.

2. Go earthy.

Plants, earthenware, or anything organic will work with Mediterranean and Asian. After all, both styles use rustic textures and deep, vivid colors of aqua and rich blue.

3. Think light and airy.

The two styles stem from warm regions where homes have many windows and open spaces. So nix heavy drapes and keep curtains light to maintain good air flow in your home.

4. Add contrast.

Mediterranean and Asian textures tend to be matte (Think terracotta or bamboo!). Contrast this with sparkle of glass, gold leaf, jewel beads, and porcelain to balance out the look.

5. Use basic materials.

Get the Mediterranean look with wrought iron, exposed wood beams, and machuca tiles. Give it a modern-Asian boost with bamboo, pale wood, and woven cane elements.
