4 Easy DIY Ideas to Spruce Up the Bathroom

Improve your space and wow your guests

To make the bathroom presentable to guests, we always make sure it's spotless and organized. Aside from following a couple of easy cleaning tips, you might also want to inject some fun into the private space by working on simple and charming DIY projects.

You can start by updating the look of one of the most common fixtures in the bathroom—the tissue holder. After working on this piece, you can move on to bigger projects that can create focal point in the T&B. Get started with these four ideas:

A rustic makeover

To add warmth to the space, prepare a scrap of wood. Sand the rough edges and attach it to the wall. If you happen to drop by the hardware store or a secondhand shop, look for a vintage-inspired handle that you can attach under the piece of wood. Your finished project can be used to hold the toilet paper or even a hand towel.

RL Tip: Spruce up the space on top of the wood by adding a tray of toiletries or a potted plant.

A vintage surprise

Since bathrooms are compact spaces, every inch of space counts. If adding an extra shelf or cabinet for supplies is not an option, maximize vertical space by installing repurposed boxes or baskets. Keep things unique by adding unexpected details such as twine and burlap. We especially loved how an old vehicle registration plate was used to add character to a wooden box!

RL Tip: Aside from using your box to store extra toilet papers, you can also keep lightweight essentials inside.

Customize a backless cube shelf

Many of us often read books and magazines in the bathroom—but where do you place your book? Aside from preparing a bin that won't get wet, you can also enclose the toilet paper holder in a backless cube shelf and use the space for books and knickknacks (as seen in photo). Make sure that this spot is far from the shower or faucet so that your things won't get wet.

Get crafty with leather and old pipes

Achieve a Boho-inspired feel in your T&B by creating a special holder using pipes, old hinges, and sturdy rope. You can work with clear acrylic tubes so that you can insert colorful printouts to liven up the piece. For the complete step-by-step guide, click here.
