Jumpstart Your Day: This Cube Can Transform Old Warehouses Into Homes

Discover the magic behind this red-and-white marvel

We've seen inspiring stories involving bare, and sometimes old spaces, turned into inviting homes. Much as we'd love to work on our own spaces, it can be a bit daunting to think about the whole process behind these transformations. Some go beyond the usual updating of furnishings as these makeovers involve working on the walls, ceiling, and structure of the home. But what if you can easily improve the space with just one cube?

Rotterdam-based architects, Kraaijvanger, created The Hub, a small cube equipped with basic plumbing that turn empty buildings into affordable housing. Measuring around 160-square-feet, it is the architectural firm's answer to futuristic housing. The Hub was conceptualized for a contest spearheaded by a local housing association.

You might be wondering how it works! The cube hooks up to existing water mains, providing a kitchen and bathroom with minimal plumbing installation.

Aside from the bathroom and kitchen, it also has a heating system, a sound system and can be hooked up with Internet connection. Add some chairs and tables, a bed or futon, and voila! You have an instant home. If you're particular with the privacy of your bedroom, a second modular design provides a matching sleeping space.

The Hub is a good idea that can help maximize unused spaces and buildings in a city. Since it's made to be easily dismantled, it's also not very hard to pack it up, should the space be needed for a different purpose.
