Jumpstart Your Day: 4 Stylish Galley Kitchens We Love

Check out how you can make the most of this efficient kitchen layout

If you live in a condo unit, apartment, or a townhouse, chances are, you have a galley kitchen where you can whip up meals and prep treats for family and friends. This basic kitchen layout features the three work centers (refrigerator, sink, and oven) on two counters that are opposite each other.

Those who live in homes with long, narrow areas may want to experiment with this layout, too. Here are four beautiful galley kitchens and ideas that we can learn from each:

To avoid a cramped look, maximize natural light. Since white bouncess off light wonderfully, consider using this versatile shade for your walls and cabinets. Open shelves are ideal for storage as it can add to the light and airy feel of your cooking corner.

Maximize your space by incorporating the principle of the kitchen work triangle. Place one of your main work units on one side of the galley kitchen and strategically put the other units on the other side—forming an invisible triangle. Make sure that the distance of one unit to the other two are not too close or too far so that you can still work efficiently. Ideally, the distance should measure around four to seven meters.

An open layout allows you to make the most of the available space, too! Do this by turning one side of your galley kitchen into a breakfast nook by simply adding stools. This setup is also ideal if you love entertaining friends and hosting parties.

If you’re blessed with a spacious kitchen, you can still work with a galley kitchen with two corridors. Separate the areas by having a kitchen island in the middle. Given this layout, you may want to separate the work area from the storage nooks as seen in the photo above.
