Jumpstart Your Day: 6 Easy Ways to Maintain a Pocket Garden
Take care of your succulents with these helpful tips
If you want to liven up a space, you can easily add a couple of potted plants or take care of succulents. Succulents are easy to care for and you can even plant them in quirky planters. But still, even if it's easy to acquire these plants, they still need the right amount of tender loving care.
Jeng Bernardo-Cabrera, owner and designer of Sucker for Succulents shares these tips:
- Start small
Especially for beginners, Jeng suggests starting with one kind of succulent first. You can pair it with a pretty planter.
- You can leave your succulents outdoors as long as it's not rainy
Don't leave your plants outside if the weather is bad. Your plants may end up soaked in water.
- Don't place them in dim corners
If you want succulents as indoor plants, remember to bring them out once in a while to get enough sunlight.
- Be ready with bigger pots
As the succulents grow, transfer them into bigger pots or planters. "The bigger the pot, mas lalaki sila kasi may space yung ugat nila to grow in," shares Jeng.
- Water them once a week
Jeng uses a spray bottle amd she sprays on the soil.
- Do your research or ask a supplier
Given the numerous kinds of succulents, there is no one formula in taking care of them. Be a keen observer. "Pag napansin ko na parang ayaw nung plant dito, ililipat ko. Parang yung isa, halos kulay brown na, tinransfer ko siya somewhere shaded, ayun, nagi-green na ulit," Jeng recalls.
