IKEA Created Furniture For Pets And We Love It

Pet lovers have asked for modern furniture, and the IKEA gods have answered!

You probably hoard Fargrik mugs and Ribba frames whenever you shop at an IKEA store abroad, or have those comfy Poang armchairs and Lack tables shipped over, customs clearances be damned. And we all know that IKEA sells everything from meatballs to the kitchen sink, but they haven’t sold actual furniture for the four-legged members of the family until recently.

IKEA answers the important needs of the pet-loving market by launching their Lurvig line this week. It’s an appropriate name for this line of modernista-friendly pet couches, cat houses, doggie blankets, pillows, colorful feeding dishes, and leashes, because “lurvig” is Swedish for “shaggy” or “hairy.”

Don’t expect cutesy, pastel-colored pet accessories here; as Lurvig stays true to the functional-modern lines of all IKEA pieces, in styles and colors that will blend into your IKEA living room or bedroom. Case in point, these doggie beds—we swear the black one looks like a mini Klippan sofa:

This fantastic cat house on legs can double as a night table, side table, or suspended shelf:

Cats love to snuggle into corners and hide from the world, and these cubbies address that; plus they can be integrated into many IKEA furniture pieces:

This printed Lurvig dog blanket looks like a splendid Marimekko throw, doesn’t it?

The line also carries why-didn’t-I-think-of-that-before accessories that you can add to your furniture, like these snap-on scratching mats that will protect your table legs:

The Lurvig collection is sold exclusively at IKEA stores.
