It's amazing to see how homeowners can squeeze in dining, living, and sleeping areas in units measuring as small as 18sqm. How is this possible? Can you still live comfortably in such a tiny space? Never underestimate the power of multipurpose pieces and proper space planning!

If you've recently moved into a small home, here are three helpful ideas that can help you achieve a cozy dining nook in your kitchen:

Maximize a kitchen island

If your unit is blessed with a kitchen island that separates the kitchen from the living area, make use of it! Don't just do the prep work there. Place a couple of barstools on the other side of the island so you can eat your meals there.

Another option? If the available space allows, you can also set up a foldable table within the kitchen that you can use when needed. Since it's foldable and light, it can be kept easily, too!

Opt for a window seat

The best way to maximize a small space is by turning every nook and cranny into a functional space. If your kitchen has a window, you can install a wooden plank by the window to serve as table. Add two chairs for an instant dining nook.

Work with slim furniture

Given the limited floor area, it's not ideal to purchase bulky furniture as these take up too much space. As much as possible, opt for multipurpose pieces as well as tranforming furniture like foldaway tables and chairs. If you really need a new piece, choose those that are slim and can easily be moved. To create an illusion of bigger space, you may also opt for furniture with slim legs.
