How-To: Declogging and Disinfecting The Drain
Letting water run through is not enough!
Most homeowners would assume that drains don’t need to be cleaned and we can’t say we’re surprised. However, considering how frequent we use it (and how much food accidentally falls into it)—it needs to be sanitized, too. To help you avoid clogging and funky odors in your cooking corner, check out this step-by-step cleaning guide:
What you need:
- Baking Soda
- Ice-cold Water
- Rock Salt
- Lime Juice
- Sprinkle half a cup of baking soda down the drain followed by one cup of white vinegar. This combination will fizz and loosen up any buildup on the sides of the pipe.
- While waiting for the paste to work its magic, boil some water. Pour this down the drain to wash the mixture off. Immediately pour a glass of ice-cold water next.
- Pour a cup of rock salt to help wash down the debris. Finish off with a cup of lime juice—the fruit will help clean and deodorize your drain.
- Rinse everything off by letting the water run for at least 30 seconds.
