3 Creative Ways to Conceal Electrical Outlets and Light Switches

Exercise your creativity while hiding household eyesores

Have you ever considered covering an electrical outlet simply because it's ruining the look of your space? You are not alone! Many homeowners think that these sockets and light switches, too—can get in the way of the look and feel that you want to achieve at home.

"Outlets usually do not need to be concealed because they need to remain accessible for use. However, if an outlet is in an awkward space, and is hardly used, then you can conceal it," shares interior designer Kimi Manuel. If you are ready to deal with these eyesores, here are three easy must-dos that you may want to consider:

Go for a cover plate

If your electric socket is placed in an unusual location and you feel that you won't be able to maximize it well, try to use a cover plate to conceal it. This will also avoid accidents and keep your home safe, especially if you have little ones running around the house.
Use your furniture

If your socket or switch is at "below table level," you can use a piece of furniture such as a table or any seating piece to block it from view. If it's on the upper half of a wall, you can conceal it by hanging a wall art, adding wall-mounted shelves or placing a tall bookshelf in the space.

Paint over light switches

Does the light switch in your bedroom or living area look out of place? Give it an upgrade so it can blend in as part of your interiors! Consider painting it or using colorful markers to liven it up. You can also use washi tape and colorful paper with lovely prints.

RL Tip: Make sure that the outlet does not have any small or sharp objecst that might accidentally enter the openings and cause accidents. Ask help from an electrician if you encounter any problems.
