The 5 Fs of Choosing the Right Sofa
Buying the perfect sofa for your space goes beyond what looks pretty and nice
When you visit home stores, you see different sofas that seem to invite you to drop your bag and sit. However, when it comes to buying the best piece for your space, it isn't enough that you buy what's nice to look at or the one with an interesting material.
You need to consider different factors before making a purchase. Interior designer Ayet San Jose-Aniag, principal designer at Design 1528 suggests checking the 5 "Fs" when buying a sofa:
When looking for a good-quality sofa, Ayet suggests checking it meticulously. “What material is it made of? What quality is the suede? Or what leather grade it is? How do you clean it? Tapos siyempre kung saang country made yung sofa. European and U.S. brands are good.” Do not hesitate to ask the store attendands about these things.
Next, you need to inspect the foam if it’s made from high-quality materials. Ask questions like: “Does the foam have a warranty? How thick is the foam? Does the foam bounce back to its original shape and form?”
Ayet recommends choosing a sofa with frame made from solid wood, as this is made to last. “Sometimes, they also reinforce it with steel or metal springs,” she says.

For the sofa’s arms and legs: “Does the chrome finish look sophisticated? Does it come in satin or matte finish?
This usually affects the price of the sofa that you intend to buy. Depending on your needs, you may opt for a piece with a special feature like a massage mechanism or a new technology that improves the fabric and framing of the sofa. As long as you have budget to spare, feel free to choose the piece that you can enjoy for a long period of time. Consider it as a reward and don't settle for anything less.
