The crib is one of the essential furniture pieces that you will purchase for your bundle of joy. When buying a crib, it's important to make sure that it's safe and durable. Make sure that the parts are well-secured to avoid any accidents.

Keep these hints in mind:
  • First, check if the measurements of the crib are proportionate to the size of the nursery or room. You do not want your nursery to look cramped.
  • Make sure that the crib has tight joints to prevent wobbling when your infant is active.
  • Secure the side rails with double locking devices.
  • Make sure that the crib’s slats are no more than 2 3/8 inches.
  • There should be at least a one inch space between the crib mattress and the sides of the crib to prevent your child from getting trapped.
  • Avoid choosing vinyl rails because they contain PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride).
  • Check if the mattress is properly secured by rattling the crib.
  • Always double check if the piece has missing and unstable parts.

When setting up a crib:
  • Do not place the crib near curtains. Curtain fabric or blind cords are hazardous because your child might tug or pull on the curtains.
  • Keep lamps and cords away from the crib.
  • Never place thick pillows or blankets in a baby's sleep environment as this might cause suffocation.
  • Remove toys inside the crib when your child is sleeping.
