When you work an 8-to-5 desk job, nothing sounds better than having a few days off to relax and unwind. However, while it may be tempting to spend all your time stealing catnaps and binge-watching your favorite TV series, it's important to stay productive, too. Why don't you get started on a few home improvement projects? It will give you something to do and refine your home in the long run. Here are some must-dos you can start with:

1. Paint anything that needs to be painted.

If you need a little change of scenery at home, why not go to the hardware store and grab a couple of buckets? Whether you’re working on an entire room or just adding an accent wall to finish a space, painting is relatively easy, inexpensive and it gives you time to be left alone with your thoughts, too.

2. Build an outdoor oasis.

Since you aren’t going anywhere, it might be a good idea to take the time to turn your messy backyard into a Victorian-inspired gazebo. A little sweeping, planting some fresh blooms and cleaning outdoor furniture are just some of the things you can do.

3. Organize your entryway.

The foyer is the first thing visitors see when they enter your home so it is important you keep it in tip-top shape! Get the business center of your home in order by adding notepads and pens for taking down messages, catchalls for keys and knickknacks or adding a shoe rack for outdoor footwear.

4. Change busted light bulbs.

Be it in the garage, basement, attic or a room you use on the daily, take this opportunity to brighten up your home with brand new bulbs. Consider choosing energy-efficient ones to lessen your carbon footprint in the process.

5. Revamp a closet.

It doesn't matter if it's the one you use to keep your clothes, linens or utilities—the important thing is you tidy up at least one during your free days. Remember to store things you use regularly at eye-level so you have easy access to your essentials.
