Have Coffee, Make Art, Get Exhibited!
Be an artist for a day and get your work exhibited at this coffee shop’s live mural and community exhibit
Have you ever dreamt of becoming an artist, and having your own show? Now even if you aren’t a Fine Arts major, you can experience seeing your handiwork exhibited on a public wall. Because this Saturday, January 21, 2017, 55Square Café and Vongarde Art Gallery will be holding a community art exhibit and live mural party called Katipunan.
Vongarde Art Gallery regularly holds exhibits in the space—the most recent one was a solo show by RV Basco entitled 13th Month. This time, in a creative collaboration with the gallery-cum-café, guests are encouraged to draw and sketch their own little works of art with the #55sqdineanddraw initiative.
Diners and gallery guests are given postcard-sized watercolor paper and art materials with which they can doodle and draw on while enjoying their favorite cup of coffee.
This is your chance to have your own artwork seen in a gallery exhibit, as diners have until Friday, January 20, to sip a cup of coffee and get sketching.
And then don’t miss the whole-day Katipunan event on Saturday, January 21, where all the guests’ #55sqdineanddraw works will be displayed on the café’s walls as a community exhibit. You can also watch artist collective Ang Gerilya create a live mural on 55Square’s outdoor wall, using Boysen Paint.
To formally open the art show, there will be a street party in the evening with live music performances by bands from the UP Music Circle, and the Ateneo Musician’s Pool, as well as spoken word poetry performances.
Check out their facebook page for more info about the community exhibit. 55Square Café and Vongarde Art Gallery shares a space at G/L Alcal Bldg., 285 Katipunan Ave., Quezon City.
