In the past, our ancestors kept their homes cool even if they did not have access to electricity or modern technology–they simply chose lightweight native materials, raised ceilings, and different techniques to ensure cross ventilation. With these traditional bahay kubo elements in mind, Architect Gelo Manosa designed and built his own tropical Filipino home.

Inspired by Filipino practices, Gelo opted for triangular roof awnings to shield the home from the sun and planted trees in strategic spots for improved air circulation. The rooms are furnished with wooden pieces with woven details and more locally made items.
