Get an Envy-worthy Living Room in 6 Steps
Sprucing up your living area is not as daunting as it seems
How do you achieve a living room that's welcoming and cozy? A few upgrades can help you achieve a living space that's perfect for entertaining guests and spending quality time with loved ones. Here's how to get it done:

Work on a gallery wall
Those travel photos are best viewed when displayed, not just sitting in your computer’s hard drive or mobile phone’s memory card. Have them printed and framed. If you find the idea tedious and intimidating, interior designer Tala Singson suggests starting with a grid layout using identical frames.
If you feel like being quirky, go for varied frames arranged randomly on a wall. A photo gallery doesn’t only add interest to a bland space; it also adds dimension to a small living space by drawing the eyes vertically.

Throw in some greens
Small potted plants are all the rage these days, what with the many stalls in bazaars selling them. Snap up a few and place them on any corner that you think needs some sprucing up—the coffee table, TV console, a bookshelf, even in the kitchen. Plants instantly give warmth and character to a space without a hefty price tag. Just be sure to read up on how to take care of your new green companions.

Vertical pieces make a room look more visually interesting as they add height to a space filled with horizontal items like sofas and coffee tables. The perfect addition? A floor lamp. If you have no more floor space for it, choose a pendant lamp instead.

Hoard throw pillows
A lot of home stores and department stores these days have a dizzying selection of pillows in varying prints and sizes. Layer differently sized throw pillows, say a kidney pillow in front of a 16”x16” pair, with 18”x18” pillows behind it. Change up the set to create a different look. And if you want to further cozy up your couch, add a throw in a color that complements your pillows.

Create a tabletop vignette
This will make your living room look more lived-in and relaxing. Coral a few decorative pieces of varying height on a tray: a slim vase or a reed diffuser, an eye-catching figurine, and a small potted plant. You may also use the tray to keep remote controls organized. If you have a stack of books or magazines, you can also use these as tabletop décor. Just add a small piece (like that wooden figurine you bought from your last vacation) on top, and you now have an Instagram-worthy flat lay!

Get an area rug
It will instantly pull together the entire look of your living space. An area rug is also an easy trick to define your living area from the rest of your home especially if you have limited floor space. Choose a neutral-colored area rug if you occasionally switch throw pillows or if you have other accent colors in the space. Meanwhile, a colorful rug will add interest to a dominantly neutral living room.
