Let’s take a virtual out-of-town trip to see why these spaces standout

While some of us found a home amidst fast-paced city life, there are some who chose to build a house far from Manila – where the air is fresher and one can commune with nature. As we await for another weekend, let’s dream of relaxing abodes in faraway and not so distant locations.

A Family Home in Laguna Showcases History and Local Culture

Built in the 1970s by the owner’s cousin, architect Francisco de Tiangco, this home doesn’t show any signs of its age. The façade highlights a cool green-and-white palette as plants and greenery serve as refreshing accents.

Select antiques are found all over the house – chosen for their durability. Hand-me-downs and pieces in heavy-duty wood and wrought iron give the home a rich sense of history.

Area we love: The Gazebo

The house serves as an inviting venue for gatherings – with the addition of the gazebo. Quality pieces are found in the area such as the brass framed divan from Ugu Bigyan and the wooden table created from trees that fell during Typhoon Milenyo.

An Eclectic Filipino Home in Batangas

Recycling takes the fore in this ancestral home found in Mabini, Batangas. Guests will surely be captivated by the 16-foot cathedral ceiling living room.

One wouldn’t miss the yellow walls that work well with the wooden ceilings, too. The house features intricately carved wooden balusters, grillwork, Capiz windowpanes, and select art pieces found in the different areas of the home.

Area we love: The Dining Area

The carved wooden balusters and Capiz windowpanes serve as well-thought-out accents in the eclectic space. The dining area also highlights a Chinese paper scroll screen coupled with Batangas-style buffet console.

A Filipino Eclectic Charm Radiates from this Negros Oriental Home

The bright and cheery atmosphere of this home is undeniable. Colorful walls paired with windows framed with stained glass and artworks complete each corner of the home.

Years of collecting different pieces helped the homeowners achieve the space that they now enjoy. These finds are either a hand-me-down gift, a customized piece, or a bargain score.

Area we love: The Tree House

Built upon the request of the homeowners’ children, the tree house was erected using scraps from the property and teak wood. It is divided into two structures connected by a wooden hanging bridge.

Contemporary Filipino Furnishings in a Tagaytay Log Cabin

Log cabins are very rare in the country given our tropical Philippine climate. However, since it’s colder up north, it’s not unusual to see such structure in Tagaytay.

Though it looks like a typical ski lodge from the outside, this weekend getaway showcases contemporary Filipino interiors. Interior designer Carmen-Lim Regala worked around the owners’ chosen rich yellow hue – with touches of green and orange set against brown, cream, mocha, and beige as part of the color motif.

Area we love: The Attic

We’ve always imagined attics as dark and cluttered spaces but for this home, the attic was transformed into a relaxing room. Green accents, plush cushions, and bean bags complete this cozy part of the house.
