Dos and Don'ts of Having A Loft Bed

Raising your sleeping space can lead to a lot of possibilities

How would you feel if we told you that there's a way to expand your home without any major renovations? If you're feeling space deprived, the quickest way to double it is by building a loft bed. Raising your mattress gives you extra space you can use for storage, activities, and even for an extra sleeping area.

Ready to take your space to new heights? Check out these ideas:

1. DO maximize the space under the loft.

One of the main reasons for getting a loft is to free up floor space. Maximize every inch by turning it into a functional spot depending on your needs—you can choose between a home office, a small reading nook or even a closet!

2. DO make it as cozy as possible.

Treat your loft bed as you would any bedroom. Personalize it with art pieces, your favorite reads and the most comfortable bedding. Make it so homey you'd forget you're living in a small space!

3. DON'T position your loft too close to the ceiling.

Before putting up a raised cot, make sure your home can handle it. Measure the height of your walls to check if you have enough room to sit up (or even stand up) on your bed without hitting the underside of your ceiling.

4. DON'T think that loft beds have to be tall.

A loft bed doesn't have to be inches from your ceiling. Lower pieces can be just as functional if you turn the space underneath into storage or a study area.

5. DON'T think falling over is inevitable.

If you don't like the look of wood or steel rails, you can always go for plexiglass railing. This "invisible" feature not only prevents you from rolling out of bed, it makes the space look bigger, too.
