Materials:
  • Shallow dish
  • Plant of choice
  • Soil
  • Moss or pebbles
  • Kitchen scissors
  • Chopsticks (optional)
  • Paintbrush (optional)

1. Get a shallow dish that's at least 1.5 inches deep. Check for a drain hole to make sure that there is proper ventilation.

RL Tip: Opt for ceramic or glazed dishes.

2. Select a plant that's at least twice the height of the dish. Be sure that the original pot of the plant is not larger than the dish.

3. Place the broken pot on the hole to control dirt erosion from runoffs.

4. Place about half an inch of soil from the runoffs.

5. Carefully position the plant into the pot.

6. Add small rocks or pebbles to dress up the soil. Depending on your style, you may also use other decorative elements such as marbles or shells.

7. Display your dish garden in the living area or balcony.
