Charming Ideas For Your Christmas Tree

Give your Christmas balls a rest and try other alternatives

By now, some of you have already decorated your homes for Christmas—or at least, you're starting to. You're probably assembling your Christmas tree at this very moment. If you're tired of the same Christmas balls that you hang on your tree every year, it's time to explore other ideas. Here are some:

1. Ribbons

Decorating your tree with ribbons is a surefire way to make it look elegant. Scatter them equally throughout your tree. Stick to a color scheme as well, like red-and-gold or blue-and-silver palettes, so your tree won't look cluttered.

2. Little Dolls

If you want to make your tree appealing to kids, hang little dolls on it. You can even make your own from scrap fabrics. Hang them individually on each stem of your tree or as little groups scattered around.

3. Typography

Spread messages of love, joy, and giving by hanging these on your tree. You can have your messages made by papercutting or stenciling or by writing them in beautiful calligraphy on small cardboards.

4. Presents

Everyone loves finding a present under the Christmas tree. While the gifts haven't been opened, create a vignette out of them. Let your gift wrappers follow a color scheme so it won't look too busy under your tree. Add an accessory like a reindeer or a hurricane lamp to jazz up your vignette.

5. Plush Toys

If you have a bit more time, why don't you make your own Christmas tree ornaments? Sewing plush toys can be a good way of recycling scrap fabrics. You can do this on a lazy afternoon at home when you're not out shopping for gifts. You can even hold a plush toy-making activity at your child's Christmas party in school.
