Be familiar with common rug sizes to find one that suits your space

"The actual size of the rug may also vary depending on its design. Your choice for the size of an area rug is simply decided by the dimensions of the open area of the floor you plan to place it on," shares interior designer Van Acuna. Make the right rug choice by familiarizing yourself with their sizes.

Runners

Used on hallways and stairways, runners are usually 2’x6’, but they can be as long as the space requires. They can make your hardwood floors less slippery, and minimize the noise of clacking heels or stomping feet on hallways and stairways.

Handmade Wool and Jute Wave Design Runner (3’x10’), P34,815, Tai Ping Rugs and Carpets

Tip: Put non-slip pads under your runners and other area rugs to avoid accidents. It will also keep you from having to reposition them every so often.

4’ x 6’ or 3’ x 5’

Used for entrance or as an accent under a coffee table to create a more intimate conversation spot. It can also be placed on the bedside, making your feet feel cozy and warm when you step out of bed.

Irregularly Shaped Rugs

A room that has unusual angles requires irregularly shaped rugs like cowhide, explains interior designer Van Acuna. She adds that they can be used on the floor as a centerpiece, at the foyer, or as a wall hanging.

Flat Weave Woolen Tiget Hide (5’x7’, shaped) P66,175, Tai Ping Rugs and Carpets

Tip: Complement animal hide rugs with rustic or distressed furniture or décor for a cabin-like, old-world feel.
