Building 101: Different Cornices and Baseboards
Mouldings such as cornices and baseboards help conceal unsightly joints in the home
The area of our wall where it meets the floor and the ceiling can sometimes look unsightly. Cornices and baseboards not only help conceal these joints, they also add an embellishment to a plain home. You can also define doors and windows by framing them with painted mouldings in color that contrasts with the wall for a bold statement.
Most commercially available trimmings and cornices are made of either wood, plaster, or polystylene composite materials. The pre-coated mouldings available in home depots require no sanding, and are already primed for painting -- saving you much time and labor cost.
