Artist Turns Fallen Tree Branches into Functional Sculpture
We especially liked the shelves!
We’re used to seeing recycled items turned into functional pieces for the home. Just think about the old mason jars that you can use as planters or the shoeboxes that you can transform into multipurpose organizers—the list is long and the possibilities are endless.
Aside from everyday things, many are also experimenting with wood and items found in the garden or on the road. Take for example Chilean artist Sebastian Errazuriz. He found a fallen tree branch while walking around the city in Santiago, Chile and he brilliantly transformed it into a pretty shelf. Now, we want one!
According to a post by Bored Panda, the natural shape of the limb predetermined the form of the shelf. The artist then proceeded to twisting it and sanding off the rough edges.
To complete the project, he applied lacquer over the branch to give it a smooth and shiny black finish. Glass platforms were added for books and décor. The “Bilbao” shelf – named after the street where the branch was found, is included in the list of Sebastian’s impressive work. Just imagine the shelf livening up one wall in the living area or even in your bedroom!
This is not the first time that the artist worked with fallen tree branches. He was also able to craft another enchanting shelf and a unique table with a glass top.
