Azumi Boutique Hotel is a 16-storey establishment in the heart of Alabang. “We wanted to have a hip and stylish boutique hotel in Alabang,” says Janice Almirante, director of sales and marketing. “If you notice, all properties in Alabang are technically the same, with the traditional hotel setting. This time, we wanted it more comfortable, friendlier for families, barkadas, and couples. We don’t want it too stiff.”

You get this laidback vibe as soon as you step into Azumi’s stylish lobby, which was designed by Ivy and Cynthia Almario. A Chesterfield sofa and a handful of nail-trimmed wing chairs invite you to take a seat as you wait for the front desk to process your check-in or check-out details. The walls are peppered with playful accessories in red, black, gray, and white.

But it’s not just the well-designed lobby that the hotel boasts of. Azumi, which means “safe residence” in Japanese, made sure to live up to its name by using materials that are safe and eco-friendly. For instance, the wall behind the front desk is made of Ecocarat tiles, which absorb humidity, odor, and moisture. The same tiles are used in each of the 186 rooms, ensuring you of clean, fresh air.

Another impressive feature is the lap pool located on the penthouse. Here, you get treated to a fantastic, 360-degree view of the southern cityscape as you indulge in a morning or an evening swim.

If all the swimming and lounging “tires” you out, head to Romulo Café on the ground floor. The restaurant is garbed in a refreshing green-black-and-white palette, with floor-to-ceiling windows that make for a pseudo-al fresco dining. A few strides away is El Molito, where there are more dining choices.

“Initially, the building is supposed to be for a condominium, but the owners decided to sell it as a hotel,” says Janice. With the rave reviews Azumi has been getting, that decision proved to be a good one.
