A 24sqm Unit for a Cebuano Businessman in Makati
The Philippine School of Interior Design graduating students drew inspiration from the Art Deco style for this small space
What can you do with a 24sqm home? The Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) graduating students explore the possibilities through Studio 24, an interior design exhibit with 24 different units that measure 24 square meters each.
One of the 24 spaces is a studio unit for Christian, a 26-year-old bachelor with his own car business in Cebu and Manila. Here are the 5 things that caught our fancy in this black-and-gold space:
The Unexpected Color Scheme
Graduating students Karlo Hernandez, Jaian Agoncillo-Ortega, Nikka Co, Kc Espeleta, and Angela Guillarte chose a surprising color palette for the studio unit! The black-and-gold combination reflects the glitz and glamor commonly associated with the Art Deco design style.
The Matte Black and Glossy Gold Finishes
Another way to make this color scheme stand out is to use contrasting finishes! The matte black paint used throughout the unit highlights the gleaming finishes of the lighting fixtures, cabinet handles, and other gold details.
The Mosaic Tile Backsplash
We also loved the gold mosaic tiles used for the kitchen backsplash! These mosaic tiles protect the kitchen walls from oil splatter and also serve as an eye-catching addition to the space.
The Dramatic Lighting
To make the space seem even more glamorous, luxurious, and sophisticated, the graduating students used different lighting options! Cove lighting above the bed and pendant lamps on both sides of the bed make the space seem more interesting.
The Raised Sleeping Area
If you also live in a studio unit, you may also want to use a raised platform to separate the sleeping area from the rest of the space!
Studio 24 will run from October 3 to 31, 2015 at the Ronac Lifestyle Center, Paseo de Magallanes, Makati City. Admission is free.
