A 22sqm Home For A Family of Four
Plus one more—they have an adorable dog, too
It's no secret that we’ve done a lot of features about lovely tiny homes and its dwellers from around the world. Most of them are either single, a couple or sometimes they share space with a few furry friends, but have you ever heard of a complete family of four living in a 22sqm home? Macy Miller together with her partner James, and their children Hazel and Miles, think it's possible.
Macy started the project in 2011 with plans to build a 196 sqft. (around 19sqm) home with a 5 ft (almost 1sqm) patio and James helped out when they started dating. Eventually, their family grew from two to four plus a new pet, so they decided to convert the patio into the kids’ room extending the home to a good 232 sqft. (22sqm).
Both Macy and James have a background in architecture, so they decided to build the house from scratch using recycled wood pellet and dry wall. It has big windows that allow natural light to flow indoors, it is fitted with radiant heat flooring and a compost toilet to minimize waste. Similar to a traditional home, this compact unit has a fully functional kitchen with a four-burner stove and an oven, a full-sized shower and two comfortable sleeping spaces.
While this is already a cozy home for the four of them, Macy and James have decided to take their kids on a new adventure. They are currently rebuilding and customizing a 1966 Aloha Travel Trailer to take on a road trip across the USA.
