In 2007, sisters Tina, Reg, and Bea Sambalido established Renegade Folk, a brand best known for their handcrafted leather footwear. Their locally made sandals are available at CommonThread Greenbelt, CommonThread Rockwell, The Ramp Glorietta, seektheuniq.com, and their own website, renegadefolk.com. Those living in the North may also visit their new showroom, located at 3F Linear Building, 142 Katipunan Ave., White Plains, Quezon City.

Apart from being filled with stylish and sturdy pieces that can take you anywhere, the new Quezon City showroom also has a lot of beautiful and inspiring things. Here are the eight things that the Sambalido sisters love best about their interesting store.

Favorite Recycling Trick

“Reusing bottles. We can use them for water. We like to drink at home, so we have a lot of wine bottles around the place.”

Favorite Object on the Desk

“’Love what you do’ décor. It’s a constant reminder of being appreciative of what we have.”

Favorite Design Books

“It’s interesting how people live their lives creatively. Creativity at Work shows homes of creative people and where they work. When you look at their spaces, these tell so much about them."

"And then, John Robshaw Prints. He works with local craftsmen to develop new prints. He modernizes the ancient techniques of printmaking, which is very interesting for us.”

Both books available at Fully Booked

Favorite Home Gadget

“WD TV Media Player. Usually, you don’t get to watch TV anymore. It’s basically a more accessible Apple TV, because Apple TV is limited to mga shows sa States ang channels nila, tapos yung gadgets lang nila. Yung WDTV, lahat, may hard drive ka, USB, anything. And it’s portable. You can bring it anywhere.”

Available at www.wdc.com

Favorite Pick-me-up Treat

“Bucky’s Brownies. Masarap. It’s flourless. It’s not that sweet. Ang ganda ng balance. Masarap siyang namnamin!”

Favorite Home Scent

“Voluspa Makassar Ebony & Peach. It’s very unexpected. We want to look for a distinct smell…parang signature smell.”

Voluspa Candle, P1,695, Dimensione, Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

Favorite Part of the Showroom

“The floor. It has a very distinct look. Initially, we were thinking na concrete lang because it’s cheap and it looks nice naman. And then, we were thinking of spirals, but everyone was doing that na. So we thought, ‘Why not get our own pattern and treat is as our own artwork?’”

Favorite Home Accessory

“Ladder/shelf. It’s versatile. It acts both as a display unit and as a ladder. It’s very functional.”
