8 Different Mattress Sizes for Any Bedroom
Discover the perfect mattress size for your personal space with this handy guide
Since one third of the day is spent in the bedroom, it must be furnished with the right pieces. And what could be more important than your bed? A mattress with the right size can make you more comfortable and help you sleep better! Learning the standard mattress sizes can also make it easier for you to find perfectly-fitted bed sheets.
Before you decide, here are questions that you must answer:
- Who will use the bed? What is the person's height and build?
- How many people will use the bed?
- What is the size of the room and where do you plan to place the bed? Do you plan to move the bed around in the future?
- Will it be easy to purchase bed sheets of the mattress size?
- How much is your budget?

Youth Bed (33 x 66 in or 83 x 167 cm)
This bed is ideal for children from five to ten years old -- toddlers must always have beds with railings on the side.
Single or Twin Bed (39 x 75 in or 99 x 190 cm)
These are good for kids to teens, although it would be more practical to get a single bed to last them for many years. When two single beds are placed side by side, it could also serve as an alternative to a King size bed.
King Single (42 x 78 in or 106 x 198 cm)
This is smaller than a double bed, but bigger than the standard single bed. This is a good option for restless sleepers who move a lot. It might be more difficult to find bed sheets for this particular mattress size.
Extra Long Twin (39 x 80 in or 99 x 203 cm)
This longer-than-usual bed is perfect for a tall homeowner.
Double/Full (54 x 75-80 in or 137 x 190 cm)
Double, or a full-sized, bed is meant for a single person. It is not recommended for two people because each person would only have 27in each.
Queen (60 x 75-80 in or 153 x 203 cm)
This is a good option for couples who like to cuddle, or if you have a small master bedroom, which cannot accommodate a King size bed. Also may be an option for guest rooms.
King/Eastern King (76 x 80 in or 198 x 203 cm)
This is roomy enough for two adults, although you have to make sure it will fit the doors or hallways before you purchase it,
California King/Western King (72 x 84 in or 182 x 213 cm)
While this size is longer than other beds, the width is less than two single beds put together. One must also note that the sheets can be difficult to find in the local market.
