Not a fan of everything that glitters? Then go for a more natural, neutral-themed holiday look.

When you mention holiday décor, you tend to think of endless gold garlands, and Christmas trees drooping under the weight of hundreds of ornaments—the stuff of horror vacui nightmares. But you don’t have to go in this direction!

Why not go for a casual, natural decorating theme this Christmas? Decorating your home with neutral-colored, simple, organic-looking décor will make your home easy on the eyes, and your holidays more relaxing. Here’s how:

Try a naked wreath.

You don’t have to weigh down your wreath with so many Christmas balls. A realistic pine wreath like this would look beautiful on its own on your front door.

While you’re at it, try a naked tree!

A simple Christmas tree without any ornaments can still look lovely and comforting, especially when grouped together with bigger trees. This one comes with its own burlap sack.

Perch a nest on your table.

Bringing in fairytale creatures will add a subtle touch of whimsy—plus you can keep them long after the holidays. This nested bird will look adorable as a tabletop centerpiece.

Religious icons can be subtle.

You don’t have to bring the whole manger into your home come Christmas. Subtle religious accents like angels (there is a child Jesus figure, too) in antique-style, patina finishes.

Add woodland elements.

Forego the gold-toned candelabra and display woodland-inspired candles, instead. These candles are “flameless,” but still give that holiday glow.

Go for a modernist tannenbaum.

Some minimalist modern homes look rather awkward with traditional Christmas trees. If so, match your sleek house with this modern wooden Christmas tree (it also dismantles and folds flat—a big plus for small homes).
