6 Interesting Dining Rooms of Pinoy Celebrities

Anne Curtis, Kim Chiu, Bea Alonzo, Bianca King, Grace Poe, and Kim Atienza show their dining areas

As Filipinos have a profound appreciation for family and food, it is no surprise that we value the dining room, the space that brings these two things together.

Even some of the country’s biggest stars have a soft spot for their own dining areas. Since their hectic schedules are filled with rehearsals, workshops, and tapings, they cherish the rare moments when they can actually sit down and enjoy a meal in the comfort of their own home.

Anne Curtis

Before she moved into a different home, the Kapamilya star lived in this home in the South. In the dining room, a huge wall-mounted mirror creates the illusion of more space. A crystal chandelier hangs over a round dining table.

The table is paired with dining chairs that have interesting solihiya detail -- a woven material often found in Filipino furniture.

Bea Alonzo

The highlight of the dining area designed by Jeizele delos Reyes-Go is a ten-seater dining table made of solid acacia wood and surrounded by tufted dining chairs covered in shiny silver fabric. The table and chairs were purchased from Origins Home Furniture. A crystal chandelier from Victoria Mondiale adds a sophisticated touch to the space.

Bianca King

The dining room is furnished with a dining table found at a junk shop. The Victorian couch resting against the wall is also secondhand piece.

The wicker chair near the window was previously owned by her mother, Suzanne Ancheta-King. The bench with the low backrest is Bianca’s own design and made by her furniture designer, Jeremy Guiab.

Senator Grace Poe

A serene feel is present in the family's warm and welcoming dining area which is completed with a ten-seater wooden dining table.

Grace explains that the piece is actually made up of two tables once owned by her husband’s grandfather, Misael Vera, who was the head of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in the time of President Diosdado Macapagal.

The area is illuminated with ceiling-mounted halogen lights and an old crystal chandelier with miniature lampshades. The chandelier is from their old home in Virginia, USA.

Kim Chiu

Design consultant Janet Diquiatco-Torio commissioned artists Raymond Cariaso and Raymond Perlata to do a mural for Kim’s dining room wall.

There are also feng shui elements in the dining room. Feng shui expert Joy Lim suggested a shade of blue on the walls to offset the fire element in the nearby kitchen.

Even the form of the dining room chairs conveys good luck and prosperity. Janet says she had the backrests made to look like the number 8, which is a symbol of infinity in feng shui.

Kim Atienza

The dining area is now filled with interesting paintings by up-and-coming artists.

Notable works include Three by Louie Cordero, Monsters in Orchestra by Alfred Esquillo and Killing Culture by Wire Tuazon. The It’s Showtime and Matanglawin host also has two Frank Gehry Cloud lamps over the dining table complemented by intentionally mismatched dining chairs.
