Who would’ve thought that actress and host Angel Aquino has a fondness for cooking? While we’re very much familiar with her versatility as an actress, it comes as a welcome surprise that she hails from a family of cooks.

In her family’s home in Marikina, the warmth emanating from the kitchen and dining areas is undeniable. With wooden pieces, hints of red, and a spacious cooking area—it’s the best place to spend time with loved ones over good food and memorable stories. Here are six important tips you can pick up from these areas:

1. An efficient layout can help you make the most of the available space.

The kitchen and dining areas are situated next to each other—allowing Angel to prep meals even while entertaining friends. Since she oftens cooks during her free time, it helps to have everything she needs within reach. There is enough countertop space for the tasks at hand and the cabinets are kept organized.

2. Invest in pretty and sturdy stools and high chairs.

Angel shares that her family loves to hang out in this part of the home a lot. To be able to accommodate everyone, stools are placed near the kitchen. The high chairs can also transform the counter into an instant breakfast nook/extension of the dining table. For chairs you can add to your space, check out Match Contract Furniture.

RL Tip: You may want to get a dining table that's long enough to accommodate 10 to 12 people if you have a big family. A bench is an ideal seating piece to avoid visual clutter, too.

3. Keep within a cohesive look when choosing decor and furniture.

Perhaps the addition of wooden cabinets, antique pieces, and touches of green make the kitchen and dining areas even more inviting. If you collect dinnerware and cutlery, keep them in mint condition inside an antique cabinet with glass doors. Aside from keeping your collection safe and in order, it can also turn into a conversation piece.

RL Tip: If you have a spacious kitchen similar to Angel's—you can spruce up a corner of the countertop with a simple vignette or a styled setup featuring plants.

4. Inject bold and lively colors.

Some of the things guests would instantly notice in the space are the hints of red—from the tablecloth and curtains to the accessories and artwork. Take note of this and consider working with similar colors when finalizing the look of your own kitchen and dining areas. Red is known to be a good choice for these nooks as it's known to whet one's appetite. You can also experiment with hints of yellow to brighten areas up.

5. Work with an open shelf and repurposed jars.

One of the best things about these areas is a simple organizing hack—must-haves that are used often are kept outside while those that they seldom use are neatly stored inside cabinets. An open shelf also holds jars of different ingredients and even snacks. When organizing your cooking area, consider separating your daily essentials—keep them in a special cabinet or shelf so you can find what you need easily.

SB Furniture has shelves you can add in your kitchen, too! A slim piece takes up less floor space and can help you organize jars and other small knickknacks.

6. Utilize wine bottles as part of your decor.

Do you love wines? A wine rack filled with your chosen spirits can serve as an interesting tabletop piece. Use it to liven up a buffet or console table. Pair it with a vase of flowers and sophisticated accessories to create an elegant vignette reminiscent of your favorite restaurant or hotel.

RL Tip: You can also use recycled wine bottles! These can be turned into unique decor pieces that would surely capture the attention of guests.
