Now that we no longer have the luxury of enjoying a three-month-long vacation, some of us may not have noticed that summer has finally arrived. However, the lack of a long break should not stop us from celebrating this time of the year. More than serving as the perfect excuse for planning out-of-town trips, this season can also provide design cues.

If you are planning to improve and update your space, here are 6 summer-inspired tips that you should try.

Choose a brighter hue

Welcome summer with a happy shade that represents what you love best about this season. For this foyer, interior designer Macie Lorenzo opted for a playful blue that reminds us of ocean waves.

Consider white surfaces

Not a fan of bold hues? You can use white instead. There is something so cool and refreshing about a plain white surface!

Take baby steps

However, if you don't have the time or the money to take on a painting project, you can start with a few small changes. Choose a vase of flowers or a few vibrant blue pillows to create a summer-inspired look.

Clean your windows

Clean your windows thoroughly to let the sunlight in. This will also allow you to appreciate the flourishing beauty of the outdoors.

Replace furniture pieces

If your home is filled with traditional, dark-colored pieces, you should consider switching things up! For example, you can look for a dining set made from light-colored wood instead. However, if this is too pricey for you, you can change a small item or two first.

Pick a summer-perfect scent

Home fragrance spray can easily turn your old home into a summer getaway. The trick is to find one that seems ideal for the season, like a refreshing citrus or an ocean-inspired scent.
