When someone says makeover or renovation, many of us immediately worry about how much it would cost. Like what we always say, you can give your home a new look without spending thousands in one go. Simple updates, bringing in investment pieces, and even cleaning your home can work like pixie dust. Achieve your #kitchengoals with these tips and ideas:

1. Add a DIY touch.

Always forgetting grocery lists, bills, and recipes? Install mini chalkboards on one wall so you can easily write these important details down. In this compact kitchen, we loved how the designers opted for three square panels that can double as decor—these pieces look more pleasing compared to one huge blackboard.

2. Paint your walls.

Interior designer and broker Rochelle Granali suggests painting the walls in the kitchen to give it a clean and refreshing look. Consider using white, neutrals, and even hints of green. You can use red and yellow as accent colors, too. If you're not so much into using paint, you can explore the possibilities of having a solid color or mosaic backsplash.

3. Clean and declutter regularly.

An organized shelf and a neat cabinet can help you finish tasks efficiently. Make it a habit to remove unnecessary items, expired food, and utensils you no longer use. Keeping these spots squeaky clean can further inspire you to whip up delicious meals and delightful desserts.

4. Invest in appliances and a sturdy countertop.

Rochelle shares that you need to have basic appliances. Check the condition of your refrigerator, stove, and microwave oven. If these are showing signs of wear and tear, it's best to reward yourself with a new piece. To further improve the overall look of your kitchen, you may also want to change your countertop to sturdy natural stone like granite and marble.

5. Update the look of your cabinets.

Are your cabinets looking a bit dull and dirty? Give it a fresh coat of paint! You can also decorate it using decals, washi tape, or replace it entirely with a new one if your budget allows. Another budget-friendly way to give it a new look would be to replace the knobs and pulls with prettier and elegant pieces. Wilcon Depot has a variety of knobs you can choose from.

6. Check and fix the plumbing and fixtures.

No one wants to cook in a kitchen with leaky faucets! Regularly check the plumbing fixtures and other basic components to make sure that it is in good working condition. Depending on the budget you have, you can change these, too. Remember to consult with an expert when checking pipes and water connections to make sure you're covering all grounds.

RL Tip: Find quality fixtures at the Sanitec Main Showroom, 236, E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, Barangay Don Manuel, Quezon City.
