To break the monotony in her Scandinavian-inspired condo unit, homeowner Lana Tiotuyco opted to add red accessories and a couple of artworks. These art pieces add a unique personal touch to her space as it reflects her personality and passions.

Aside from choosing quality furniture pieces and accessories, you may also work with art to liven up your space. Keep in mind that you need not spend much for a painting! There are affordable places to get works of art from.

Buy at student exhibits

Many top universities regularly hold exhibits of works by their Fine Arts students. Some of these universities include Far Eastern University and the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts.

Go online

Budding young artists have found an audience online, and their sites or blogs are updated regularly. Former RL art director Arlene Sy, for example, has gained popularity for her delicate watercolor prints, which can be viewed at arlenesy.com.

Visit art fairs

Notable galleries such as Galleria Duemila and Boston Gallery participate in art fairs like Art in the Park and ManilART. These events also feature the works of up-and-coming artists.

Opt for prints

Be creative and save on costs by working with framed prints. These pieces costs less and can add color and visual interest to any room. You can purchase affordable prints from stores such as Space Encounters, Heima, and Our Home (SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City).

Try DIY

If you have the time, you can always try your hand at a couple of easy projects! Visit our Tips and Guides section and choose DIY for ideas. Be inspired by Lana, too! Whenever she finds interesting images on the Net, she downloads them and has them printed on tarp and canvas for instant, affordable art.
