A small dining area shouldn't stop you from inviting and entertaining friends at home. Proper space planning and choosing the right furniture pieces can help you achieve a cozy space that you and your guests will surely love.

Let these five ideas guide you.

Ensure correct measurements

Before purchasing your dining set, you need to measure the space where it will be placed. Bring your measurements and a tape measure when you visit the store. Don't be afraid to consult with the store attendant as he or she can give inputs and advice as well.

Make sure that there's enough leg room so everyone can be comfortable during meals.

RL Tip: You may opt for slim chairs without arms to save on space. Click here to learn more about the different types of chairs that you can consider.

Add a mirror

Mirrors are go-to pieces that help create an illusion of a bigger and wider space. You may place it next to a console table to make the area seem more spacious.

Choose comfy seats

Avoid adding bulky pieces that take up too much space. You may add dining chairs with cushioned seats for a more relaxed get-together with family and friends.

Avoid too many decor pieces

While it might be tempting to add chic decor pieces and classy chandeliers in the dining area, you should also keep in mind that you don't want to create a cluttered space. Choose your decor pieces wisely like an interesting print that can spruce up a wall or potted succulents that you can use as centerpiece. You may also add tea lights and a charming floral setup.

Don't forget storage

As with any other area at home, don't scrimp on storage. You may add a cabinet in one corner where you can keep plates and other tableware. If you don't have space to accommodate a small cabinet, you can always work with trolleys. It's portable and it can hold your plates and utensils. To avoid broken pieces, make sure you lock the caster wheels to keep it in place.

RL Tip: If you're placing a glass cabinet in the dining area, you can liven it up by displaying your prized China pieces. Click here for more tips on displaying your collections.
