5 Design Ideas For A Minimalist Home

Who says neat spaces have to be devoid of character, fun and life?

For a lot of people, minimalism means "less is more"—in reality, however, there's more to it than going back to the basics. This decor style is also about having a simple and sleek space that showcases practicality and function. If you want to achieve the same look for your home, here are some design tricks to try:

1. Use a low bed.

A four-poster might not be the best choice if you're going for a minimalist aesthetic as the bars can take up a lot of space. In fact, it will be smarter to ditch the bed frame altogether and consider styling a cozy mattress on the floor instead.

2. Streamline your palette.

Instead of going crazy with color, consider going with just one or two hues to liven up your space. For example, if you decide to go with orange, you can put a bright tangerine chair on display and surround it with neutral accessories to let it stand out.

3. Skip the wild patterns.

Similar to holding back with the vibrant shades, it's best to keep the patterned pieces to a minimum when trying to achieve a clean look for your space. Even the neatest home can look cluttered when filled with different prints.

4. Say no to open shelves.

Believe it or not, open shelving is synonymous to having more stuff! For a minimalist space, consider keeping storage hidden or tucked away underneath bigger pieces of furniture.

5. Try a no-artwork approach.

When it comes to minimalist spaces, it is important to leave the walls as bare as possible. However, if you insist on adding art, consider going for simple paintings or sketches with subdued colors.
