If we think about it, the dining area has served as a silent witness to some of the most memorable moments in our lives. Remember the first meal you shared with the family during your first night at home? How about the first get-together you've hosted for friends? This part of the home has become such a special place that it's only fitting that we update its look every once in a while. To help you cook up some ideas, here are some of the things we loved in the homes we've featured to inspire you:

1. Let the sunlight in.

The dining area in Lyn Ching's family home seem small but it's made extra cozy and bright with the abundance of natural light. Keep your own dining nook airy and welcoming by opening the windows and letting light pass through. It also helps if you refrain from leaving condiments and other unnecessary essentials on the table. A clutter-free dining area can make meals more fun and enjoyable.

2. Invest in a sturdy wooden table.

Some of you may have access to vintage pieces from your parents' or grandparents' house. See if there's a table you can own and revarnish—it can easily give your space a warm and homey touch that even guests would love. Pair it with modern chairs in neutral finishes to keep it from looking too stuffy.

As an alternative, you can also drop by antique shops and stores along the Tagaytay-Silang road for options.

3. Work with wood, upholstery, and a few more tried-and-tested elements.

By now you already know that plants can instantly freshen up the vibe of a space and make it more easy on the eyes. Complete the look of your dining space by getting a wooden table and investing in upholstered chairs. This combo makes your space extra comfortable while keeping it from being too stiff.

4. Go bold with colors and quirky touches.

Do you have a huge dining area? Give it an upgrade and invest in customized, colorful chairs. In this home, we especially loved how the large table was made more inviting with the addition of customized chairs in different colors, with various prints. If you're working with a budget, you can also do this yourself! Consult with a professional and see if you can update the look of your chairs on your own. With just a few cans of paint you can breathe new life into your seating pieces.

5. Be subtle with different elements.

If you're already happy with your dining set, you can still give it an upgrade without spending much. Liven up the table with a pretty table runner or create alternative centerpieces using old mirrors, mason jars, and fresh blooms. Those who have wooden stools and chairs can also play with color by painting the legs in your chosen hue. This tip can help give your space a youthful vibe while still keeping within the theme of your home.
