Have you ever experienced mysteriously losing a sock? For those who regularly do the laundry, this can be quite a common occurrence and it's no longer a big deal—but before you toss these orphan pieces in the trash, it's important to try and find use for them around the home. Here are a variety of ideas you can test out:

1. Use it to clear cobwebs. All you need to do is pop a sock on the end of a broomstick and reach the high corners of your home to banish spider webs.

2. Dust your plants. Yes, green wonders need cleaning, too—especially big, indoor trees. Slip a damp sock on your hand and gently wipe down the leaves of your favorite plants to keep them healthy.

3. Make little scent sachets. Deodorize any part of your home by filling up an old sock with your favorite dried herbs like lavender, mint or even lemon peels and place them in sour-smelling spaces.

4. Protect your gadgets. Working in the garden or tweaking machines in the garage? Slip your phone, iPod, or mp3 player in old socks to keep it from getting scratched or cracked.

5. Clean your baseboards. Baseboards are often neglected, but it is just as important to keep it clean. Run through it with a sock on your hand every now and then to keep your home sparkling.
