Do you ever dream about having a weekend home? If you're fortunate to have a place away from the city—you  must know that it should be kept low-maintenance to avoid damage to furniture pieces and in the different areas of the home. Feel like you're in a faraway location by marrying aesthetics with functionality even in a mini escape. Here are ideas you can try:

1. Choose to go with statement tablecloths and throws.

Since you won't be in your weekend home to maintain the furniture on a daily basis, it's best to cover it with a decorative piece that adds character to the space. It will look good and your pieces will surely stay dust-free until you come around for another visit.

2. Keep it simple.

It's safe to say that you don't want to spend the entire time cleaning when you're in your rest house. To cut your dusting time in half, avoid displaying too many accessories and keep the pieces with multiple uses only.

3. Show off an antique.

Weekend homes are the best place to showcase more expensive pieces since they won't be getting a lot of use and abuse here. Pick out your favorite heirloom piece or two of your favorites and let it shine in your living area.

4. Surround yourself with plants.

To maximize that out-of-town feel, have your garden landscaped with low-maintenance plants (if you can't hire a gardener to tend for them). If your weekend home is a condo, try setting up a small container garden on your balcony.

5. Invest in high-quality bedding.

It's a fact that rest houses are made for sleeping in. Get as much relaxation as you can with high-end sheets that will have you waking up at noon—bed linen in Egyptian or Brazilian cotton are sure to leave you feeling rejuvenated.
