Kitchen backsplashes have come a long way from protecting panels from spills and stains. Today, it serves as the focal point of many cooking corners and it comes in a variety of materials like glass, porcelain, wood, or even stone. If you're planning to add personality and drama to the walls of your scullery, here are some alternative tiling ideas to consider:

Harlequin Tiles

For a vintage vibe that doesn't look over-the-top retro, try going for harlequin tiles. These patterned tiles are made from different materials but only comes in a single elongated diamond shape. Limit your color scheme to two or three shades to avoid leaving guests cross-eyed when looking at your backsplash.

Laser-cut Tiles

True to its name, these tiles are cut with lasers that let you create puzzle-like pieces and elaborate designs that you can't find anywhere else. In your kitchen, piece together a few of these and you're sure to have a one-of-a-kind display. These may come at a hefty price tag, but they are worth every penny!

Reflective Tiles

If you're into modern elements, a mirrored backsplash might be perfect for you. This works for all kitchen sizes, too—a small one immediately feels larger because of the reflection while it instantly grabs the attention of guests by adding another dimension in larger spaces.

Picket Tiles

If you prefer a bold look that's still quite subtle, consider picket tiles as it has an odd shape but also has a timeless feel to it. To add depth to your backsplash, have it arranged in a braided pattern instead of the traditional linear way.

Herringbone tile

Herringbone tiles never go out of style! Aside from mimicking the stunning look of marble, it adds loads of texture to your kitchen because no two pieces are alike with this material. Try pairing it with neutral and metallic accessories for a grand feel.
