There is something so satisfying about looking at a monochromatic space—a single hue put together with its underlying tints and shades can be very soothing. However, when done wrong, it can easily look monotonous and your space suddenly turns boring and uninteresting. To keep your home from looking like the latter, here are some helpful design tips to keep in mind:

1. Experiment with varying tones of your chosen color.

While using just one color may seem limiting, it can actually give you more choices. Think of all the tints and shades that you can use. Using different tones of the same color can add depth to the overall look of your home.

2. Play with textures and prints.

To keep a one-color setup from looking flat, make sure there are interesting textures, materials and prints. Consider using stripes, polka dots and other patterns in different corners of your home to keep it lively.

3. Break up the monotony with a neutral.

As with other color schemes, a neutral keeps this one grounded. Beige mixed with green, for example, can give a room a tropical vibe. Try black for a modern look or tan for something more earthy.

4. Avoid using matching furniture.

Since you're already going with a one-color scheme, you may want to steer clear of furniture sets to keep your home from looking stiff. Take this chance to experiment with different silhouettes for a more unique aesthetic.

5. Pay attention to details.

The only downside to going monochromatic is it makes it easier for people to spot the flaws in the decor. Remember to keep everything clean and in its proper spot to maintain the aesthetic you're going for.
