Arrange to have the utilities (gas, electric, phone, cable, internet, water) disconnected in your present home and have it connected again once you've settled in your new home.
Call a trucking company in advance if you need to rent out a truck for your furniture. Go online and search for a good deal that works best for you.
Days before unloading your furniture to your new home, make sure that you schedule a day to have the whole house cleaned and prepared. Unpacking and setting the items up is faster when cabinets and rooms are ready to be utilized.
RL Tip: Tape a piece of paper on the doors to indicate which room is which so that transporters know where to place the boxes.
Prepare an unpacking kit which includes: a utility knife or scissors, tools like screw drivers, extension cords, and trash bags.
Be available to supervise the loading and unloading. It's good to double check your items and see if there are a few items missing. To make unloading easier, you can also designate your things by usage, like placing all cooking utensils together and clothing items in another box.
