5 Things That Are Making Your Bedroom Look Messy

It takes more than sweeping and dusting to organize your sleeping space

There's no denying that decorating spaces is a lot of fun—however, it's also easy to go overboard and this can leave us with a cluttered room. Sometimes, we get too excited with accessories and design trends that we end up doing more harm than good to our space. To help you streamline your bedroom, take out the unnecessary elements and keep it organized, here are a few things that you should get rid of immediately:

1. An unmade bed

No matter how clean the rest of your room is, an unmade bed will make the entire space look untidy and undone. Make time to dress it up with layered bedding to take your room from drab to pulled together in a snap.

2. Exposed cords

Having a bunch of exposed cords and power strips can create an unwelcome eyesore in your space. Consider looking for a creative way to conceal them—try collecting all of it in a basket underneath the desk or assigning a gadget station in the room to keep the tech clutter in one corner.

3. Mismatched side tables

While there are times that mismatched furniture can look intentional and well-styled, the lack of symmetry can send it down the drain. When it comes to pieces that frame a bigger item—in this case the bed—it’s best to stick to matching sets.

4. Windows without curtains

Windows make a strong impact in decor, so it follows that having bare frames take away from the beauty of your space. Try hanging drapes or curtains to instantly polish a room—it adds a softness and texture like no other decor element can and it keeps the sun out when you aren’t ready to face the day just yet.

5. Misaligned frames or wall art

Nothing says chaos like a photo gallery that looks topsy-turvy! Not sure how you want it to look yet? Try laying it out on the floor first for a similar perspective. Once you’re happy with how it looks, you can start putting them back up.
