5 Style Lessons We Can Learn from Nigella Lawson

By now, you must have heard that the famous Domestic Goddess Nigella Lawson is in Manila to launch a food product. As the British star of popular food TV programs Nigella Bites and Simply Nigella, and as a judge in reality TV shows The Taste and MasterChef Australia, she won the hearts of her audience with her relaxed presenting style and her easy-to-cook recipes.

There are so many other things to like about her: her voluptuous, English Rose beauty, her sultry-but-friendly voice, and of course, her beautiful kitchens. Nigella’s light-filled, cozy, and laid-back kitchens—along with a glimpse of her busy domestic life—add to the charm of her TV shows. Here are some decorating and styling tips you can get from those famous TV kitchens: 

Rustic is beautiful.

In her TV show Forever Summer, Nigella pranced around in a beachside cottage and cooked easy, delectable meals for her family and friends. The star of the show was this delightful, robin’s-egg-blue kitchen with clapboard walls, exposed rafters, and vintage dinnerware, where Nigella whipped up ricotta pancakes and fish curry.

Keep things simple and functional.

In her breakthrough TV show Nigella Bites, Nigella shot her shows in the actual family home she shared with her late husband John Diamond. Her efficient, streamlined kitchen had a cavernous pantry, modern silver stools, practical kitchen tools, and generous windows. Eventually, she had a studio built to resemble her old kitchen, as her second husband billionaire Charles Saatchi’s house was too posh for her cooking show.

You can use herbs in flower arrangements.

Nigella loves posting snippets of her charmed domestic life, and that includes photos of how she spruces up her space using things around her house. Here, she shows her casual floral arrangement (with herbs!) with this caption: “From the garden: hydrangea, choca mocha cosmos, curry leaves, sage, rosemary, fennel flowers.”

When in doubt, think pink.

Early this year, Nigella upgraded to a pink kitchen framed by French windows after her very public divorce with Saatchi. The cabinets are in a surprising, playful shade of cyclamen pink, all the more to cheer up the beautiful host. She has shot some episodes of her latest TV shows in this kitchen.

Entertaining should be laidback and fun.

If you check Nigella’s Instagram account, you will see numerous posts of this sun-dappled outdoor table setting (again, in pink!). She has admitted she is a fan of dining al fresco, and this cheerful wrought iron garden set is the perfect spot for her simple outdoor feasts.
