While guests are usually received and entertained in the living area, it wouldn’t hurt to create another spot where you, your family, and your friends can sit to rest or read. A smaller nook or sitting area is also great for intimate conversations over cups of tea or coffee. Don’t know where to place one? Here are some ideas:

1. Allot a small room for it.

If you want some privacy, you can create a sitting area in a separate room. This can either be like a second living area but with a smaller couch, a rug, and an ottoman or a sitting area incorporated in a home office. If you can situate it in a room with a view of your garden, feel free to do so to make the atmosphere light and relaxing.

2. Make your balcony a lounging area.

This balcony at a house in Punta Fuego looks out to the sea, hence, it is a perfect spot to laze around and wile away idle time. Clean-lined outdoor pieces work to create a fuss-free, modern look that exudes style and sophistication.

3 Add accent chairs beside the bed of your little one.

This small nook is perfect for bedtime storytelling. Choose an upholstered chair and a footstool to create a warm and cozy spot.

4. Put one at the center of a studio unit.

This one-seater sofa at the center of this studio unit designed by Pai Edles and Misty Floro of Morfosis Design serves as a multipurpose spot. It is where the owner can sit to watch TV, where he can sit and read a book over a cup of coffee, and where a friend can sit down when he visits.

5. Convert your attic into another living room.

The attic isn’t just for storing your kalat. Use it to accommodate more friends, especially when you have a party. If your attic has a generous floor area, take advantage of it by furnishing it with sofas and ottomans with wide seats to make it more inviting.
